FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: passive reception of simultaneously electromagnet and acoustic radiations from partial discharges is carried out by electromagnet and acoustic receivers, as well as indication and joint computer processing of signals, according to the proposed invention, the joint computer processing of signals is carried out by detecting in each of discrete intervals of phase voltage the average values of the number and intensity of pulses of actual charge, which exceed the permissible threshold for occurrence of defects or their development, at the same time at first the electromagnet and the acoustic receivers are previously calibrated by sensitivity with account of the distance from the source of measurement, then for each type of polymer insulators by the contact method they determine limit values of intensity and number of partial discharges that characterise defect condition of high-voltage polymer insulators, then electromagnet and acoustic signals of radiation from partial discharges are registered, being synchronised with the phase of high voltage, they are accumulated in narrow phase intervals, then this phase distribution of the number of pulses and intensity (charge) is compared with previously recorded distribution of similar signals for a reference polymer insulator, signals are identified, which exceed the level safe or normal functioning of polymer insulators, and condition of high-voltage polymer insulators is identified by three diagnostics criteria, which distinguish good polymer insulators from faulty ones: higher number of partial discharges and their intensity per discrete phase interval; availability of powerful partial discharges exceeding by intensity the average values per phase interval; shift of phase intervals of the number of partial discharges with highest intensities.

EFFECT: possibility to determine a place of defect occurrence.
