FIELD: physics, measurements.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to instrumentation equipment and may be used for detection of route for installation of grounding device components in power supply objects, including traction substations of railway transport. Method for detection of grounding device components installation route includes connection of AC source to grounding device, shifting of single potential electrode along surface of ground perpendicular to proposed route of grounding device element installation, measurement of potential difference between shifted potential electrode and potential electrode referred to zone of "zero potential", besides route of grounding device element installation is identified by maximum value of ground surface potential above the element.

EFFECT: provision of possibility to increase accuracy of grounding device element installation route detection in case of considerable external magnetic field (for instance, under conditions of AC traction substation action).
