FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method of determining the distance to the grounding device element and the depth of its installation by three measurements includes connecting the AC source to the grounding device and determining an approximate laying route of the grounding device elements, measuring the electromagnetic field intensity H1 on the ground surface at an unknown distance "y" from the grounding device element. The method also incorporates moving the pickup strictly vertically to known height "a2" above the ground surface to measure the electromagnetic field intensity H2 and, further on, moving the aforesaid pickup strictly vertically to known height "a3" to measure, again, the electric field intensity H3. Finally, in compliance with the proposed method, the distance "y" to the grounding device element and the depth of installation "h" of the grounding device horizontal element are calculated from specified equations.

EFFECT: determination of distance to grounding device horizontal element and depth of its installation from any spatial point.
