SUBSTANCE: invention relates to industrial fishing. The device has a generator unit with a trigger circuit, transmission-reception acoustic system with one reception directional characteristic, unit for turning the said characteristic in a plane, perpendicular to the direction of motion of the vessel, a receive path, a unit for picking up echo signals from separate fish, unit for processing the received echo signals, containing a subunit for picking up and accumulating pathways of echo signal sequences from fish while moving the reception directional characteristic in a plane, perpendicular the heading of the vessel, and during motion of the vessel, a subunit for selecting pathway from separate fish, a subunit for selecting the shape of the pathway, subunit for picking up maximum intensities of echo signals in each of the selected pathways and a subunit for accumulating and storing the picked up maximum intensities of echo signals in each of the selected pathways, as well as an information display unit.
EFFECT: invention increases accuracy of determining the size composition of fish.
