FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for electron-beam welding objects in a vacuum. The electron beam gun with a plasma electron source has a discharge chamber containing at least one permanent magnet, an accelerating electrode, an emitter cathode with an emission channel and a focusing coil. Opposite poles of the permanent magnet in the discharge chamber and the focusing coil are placed opposite each other with formation of a common magnet system between the discharge chamber and the focusing coil, direction of magnetic field lines of which coincides with the direction of flow of electrons in the electron beam, and the value of flux density of the magnetic field formed by the magnet system on the axis of opposite poles is not less than 0.02 T, and displacement of the axis of the channel of the emitter cathode from the axis of the focusing coil is up to half the diametre of the channel.
EFFECT: easier adjustment and increased stability of operation of the gun and reduction of its dimensions.
