FIELD: vacuum electronics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates namely to equipment for electron beam technology. To heat the cathode, a laser beam is directed to the cathode surface, from which electrons are emitted, forming a working electron beam of the source. The laser beam does not pass through the nodes that are under the potential of the accelerating voltage of the electron gun, but from the side of the zero potential of the vacuum chamber body. The source current is set by the cathode heating power. The electron gun operates in diode mode. The accelerating voltage is supplied to the electron gun by a single-core high-voltage cable. The device for forming a loop-shaped trajectory of the electron beam for turning the electron beam from the laser beam input system into the vacuum chamber and from the optical unit for forming the laser beam spot on the cathode is made in the form of a magnetic mirror with a gradient magnetic field. When an electron beam passes through it, the shape of the cross section of the electron beam is preserved.
EFFECT: simplification of the design and manufacturing technology of the electron beam source with laser heating of the gun cathode.
