FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry and can be used for producing magnesium oxide from talc-magnesite ore and talc tailings from talc-magnesite ore. The method of producing magnesium oxide involves decarbonisation of MgCO3 contained in the raw material by burning at temperature ranging from 750 to 900°C. The obtained magnesium oxide is converted to water soluble magnesium hydroxide through carbonisation at high pressure. Magnesium hydroxide-carbonate is precipitated from the solution while heating, separated and then washed at temperature ranging from 900 to 1100°C to obtain pure magnesium oxide.
EFFECT: invention allows for obtaining pure magnesium oxide from talc-magnesite ore and talc tailings from talc-magnesite ore.
