FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of high-magnesite modifier flux for steel-smelting slag. Method involves mixing components of a mixture containing magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, iron oxide, silicon dioxide until obtaining a homogeneous mixture and molding it. As said components of charge there used is brucite ore of fraction less than 10 mm and fine component of magnesian composition of fraction less than 0.1 mm, which are mixed with organic binder molasses in the following ratio, wt %: brucite fraction ore of less than 10 mm 70–90, fine component of magnesia composition of fraction less than 0.1 mm 10–30, organic molasses binder in excess of 100 % 5–10, wherein the mixture is formed on a roll press into briquettes, which are heat treated in a drying unit at temperature of 150–350 °C to obtain strength by forming a carbonaceous carcass of briquettes while caramelizing molasses.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain a flux-modifier not destructible during transportation and storage and providing guidance of modified steel-smelting slag with subsequent formation of stable protective scull on working steel of steelmaking units.
