FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method relates to production of a cationite for extracting metal ions from solutions through sorption and can be used in chemical and metallurgical industries when removing metal ions from waste water. The method involves treating rubber crumbs with an ozone-air mixture with ozone content of 1 to 32 mg/l at a rate of 9 to 18 l/h for 0.5 to 3.0 h. The rubber crumbs used are in form of crushed tread rubber with particle size of 0.125 to 1.0 mm.
EFFECT: increased sorption capacity of sorbent, increased amount of sorbed metal ions when removing metal ions from waste water, simplification of method.
