FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering, particularly to traction drives and can be used in vehicles driven by DC motors fed by AC generators. Proposed electric drive comprises traction synchronous generator driven by thermal engine and incorporating stator three-phase winding whereto bridge rectifier is connected. Series excitation traction motors are connected, via switching elements, to the output of aforesaid bridge rectifier. Braking resistors are connected, via isolation diodes, in parallel to motor armature windings. Every pair of traction motors, connected in series, is connected, via its isolation diode and equalising braking resistor shunted by semiconductor switching element, to common input of the main braking resistor. The other input of the latter is connected, via switching elements, with traction motor armatures, while traction motor excitation windings are connected, via switching elements, in series and to bridge rectifier output.
EFFECT: expanded range of speeds, braking with constant braking force at voltage drop at braking resistors.
