FIELD: metal processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal processing, particularly, to thermal treatment of cutting tools to be used in machine building, accompanied by magnetic field effect. Products made from P18 steel are first subjected to cyclic magnetic treatment in permanent magnetic field at 20°C, field intensity making at least 7.5x105A/m and exposure in every cycle making 2 minutes. Then thermal treatment is conducted. Note that the number of cycles is selected depending upon steel brand and does not exceed 3.
EFFECT: higher operating performances of machined products.
