SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a file management device which sorts several files into several folders for managing said files, a method of controlling said device and a data carrier. To read data from an external data carrier and automatically sort these data into several folders for managing said data, the several files sorted into several folders are read from several external data carriers, file attribute information is extracted and the read files are sorted into several folders based on the extracted file attribute information and these files are stored in a storage unit.
