FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of assessing corrosion resistance of steel and objects made from steel, designed for operation in aggressive media. The method involves taking samples from the objects. Thin sections with a polished surface are then prepared from the taken samples and the sections are placed in a corrosive medium. The corrosive medium contains chlorine ions or rhodanate ions. The corrosive medium additionally contains sodium tetraborate and boric acid. Polarisation is done using constant potential ranging from -500 to 500 mV and the equilibrium value of polarisation current density is determined. Polarisation is also done using potential varying at a rate of 0.2-12 V/h in the range from -0.5 to +1.2 V and without interrupting polarisation from +1200 mV to -500 mV. The potential value for which zero or a negative value of current is achieved is determined. Corrosion resistance of steel and objects made from the said steel is determined from the three current measurement values.
EFFECT: increased information content and reliability of monitoring quality of steel objects.
