FIELD: quality control of steel products intended for use in aggressive media, exerting corrosive action on metals. SUBSTANCE: method consists in the fact that specimens are selected and section metallographic specimens with a polished surface are produced. The surface is treated by a chemical agent containing ions of chlorine, not more than 1%, during a preset period of time. Then, active non-metallic inclusions causing corrosion are revealed, and quantitative and qualitative analyses of active non-metallic inclusions and sections attacked by corrosion are performed. Resistance to attack by corrosion and quality of products are judged by the presence and/or quantitative characteristics of active non-metallic inclusions and sections attacked by corrosion. EFFECT: enhanced information completeness and trustworthiness of quality control of steel products providing for quality control of products of steels of any grades and prediction of service life of steel products in specific operating conditions. 24 cl, 3 tbl
