FIELD: measuring technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to measuring instruments for ranging in the direction orthogonal to a reference axis line, particularly with automatic stabilisation of a sight line, and can be applied in building. An enhanced laser range finder comprises a range, surface and volume measuring unit with its optical axis fixed in relation to a fixing point on a support and to a range reference point. The laser range finder comprises a signal processing circuit, a microprocessor, a memory, a control panel, a display and a accumulator. Besides, the laser range finder in addition accommodates a reference axis spacing unit (levelling unit) that accommodates a pendulum suspension self-centred in plumbness with its axis aligned relative to the optical axis of the unit with a position control circuit. The unit comprises a laser with a control circuit which while in service is connected to the microprocessor, the signal processing circuit, the memory, the display, the unit accumulator. The control panel serves for the unit as well.
