METOD OF PROCESSING SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL Russian patent published in 2010 - IPC G21F9/28

Abstract RU 2382425 C1

FIELD: nuclear physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear power engineering, particularly to processing combustible spent nuclear fuel and can be used in procedures for processing spent nuclear fuel. The method of processing spent nuclear fuel involves dissolving spent nuclear fuel in a raffinate from extraction processing of solutions obtained when dissolving spent nuclear fuel using an extraction agent in form of an extraction agent solvate with nitric acid with subsequent washing of the extraction agent with aqueous solution of nitric acid. After washing the extraction agent with aqueous solution of nitric acid, combined re-extraction of uranium and plutonium is carried out using concentrated aqueous carbamide solutions. The obtained re-extract of uranium and plutonium is subjected to thermal decomposition until obtaining oxide forms of uranium and plutonium which are subjected to fluorination to obtain hexafluoride.

EFFECT: cutting on volume of liquid medium- and low-active wastes formed when refining uranium and plutonium.
