SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of 2,5-dioxane-1,4-diones of formula

in which R₁, R₂, R₃ and R₄ independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, (C₂-C₆) alkenyl; (C₃-C₇) cycloalkyl; cyclohexenyl; a radical of formula -(CH₂)_m-V-W; V represents a covalent bond, an oxygen atom or a radical -C(O)-O-; W represents a hydrogen atom, (C₁-C₁₈) alkyl radical, optionally substituted with one or more halo-radicals, identical or different; aryl or aralkyl radical, where aryl or aralkyl radicals are optionally substituted with one ore more identical or different substitutes selected from: -(CH₂)_n-Y-Z, halogen, nitro and cyano; Y represents -O-, -S- or a covalent bond; Z represents a hydrogen atom or (C₁-C₆)alkyl radical optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, identical or different; or aralkyl; m and n independently represent an integer from 0 to 4; through oxidation of a ketone group of a cyclic compound of formula

in which R₁, R₂, R₃ and R₄ are as described above; where the said method is realised in the presence of an oxidising agent which is a peroxy acid, and a catalyst which is a strong acid selected from sulfonic acids. This product is used in synthesis of polylactic acid (PLA).

EFFECT: novel method of producing asymmetrical monomers based on said compound.
