FIELD: nuclear physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear power engineering in the field of controlling intra-reactor processes. The method of testing fuel elements in stepwide power increase mode in a research reactor involves placing a radiation device with fuel elements under test in a looped channel, around which there are standard reactor control devices. The reactor is switched to given power with the standard control apparatus lying next to the looped channel immersed into the core and holding until stabilisaton of all parametres and attaining equilibrium conditions on that power level. Simultaneously with complete extraction of the standard control apparatus lying next to the looped channel, and compensation for the introduced positive reactivity by immersing standard control devices lying in sections of the core, away from the looped channel, total power of the reactor is reduced such that power of the tested fuel elements remains constant, and stepwise increase in power of the tested fuel elements provides the following increase in total power of the reactor at a given rate.
EFFECT: method cuts duration of the experiment and improves conditions for modeling processes taking place.
