SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates automation system design. The result is achieved due to that an automation system and method are proposed for determining the sequence of processing functional modules of a technological function, where inside part of the functional modules there is a feedback loop and the functional modules are connected to each other to realise the technological function. A first functional module is determined, outputs of which are or not connected or give out one or more output signals of the technological function. Further, a second functional module is sought against the flow direction of signals, where outputs of the module are or are not connected or receiving input signals of the technological function or receives the feedback signal through one of its inputs. Further, from the second functional module in each next module in the direction of flow of signals to the first functional module, all inputs of modules are identified, where the inputs are or are not connected or receive the input signal of the technological function or receives the feedback signal through one of its inputs or connected to the output of another functional module all inputs of which are already identified, and the sequence of processing functional modules is established according to the sequence of marking the functional modules.

EFFECT: easier determination of the sequence of processing functional modules.
