FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves mixing hydrogen and oxygen in a catalyst bed and an inert packing. Cooling water is passed through the layer of the catalyst and packing mixture and the catalyst is 0.2-2.0 wt % platinum deposited on porous polymer grains with diametre of 0.5-2.0 mm. The inert packing is in form of elements made from an inert metal or inert alloy with size of up to 3.0 mm and the volume ratio of catalyst to packing ranges from 1:3 to 1:30. Hydrogen is fed directly into the layer of the catalyst and inert packing. Cooling water is at temperature below 30°C and the ratio of oxygen to hydrogen is less than the stoichiometric ratio. The reactor includes at least one inlet for each of hydrogen, oxygen and cooling water. Each hydrogen inlet lies inside the layer.
EFFECT: lower expenses and increased productivity.
