FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing bisphenol A by reacting starting substances - acetone and phenol in the presence of a catalyst which is a cation-exchange resin in which at least acetone, extracted from the acetone recycling stage in total amount acetone at the reaction stage, is purified before the reaction stage with removal of methanol contained as an impurity when supplying the said starting substances and acetone extracted from the acetone recycling stage to the reaction stage, where methanol is removed through distillation at pressure 200-1100 kPa.
EFFECT: use of the method enables stable production of bisphenol A for a long period of time, while preventing loss of activity of the cation-exchange resin as a catalyst used in the reaction.
