FIELD: physics, cinematography.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to coding and decoding multi-perspective video images. The result is achieved due to that compensation for shifting is used, where prediction is carried out by using shift between video images. Video images are coded as a single video image. A reference shift for the target image to undergo coding is given. The reference shift is evaluated using a reference image; division into regions in the image frame is given; shift displacement for each region obtained by division is given, where the shift displacement is the difference between the reference shift and the shift for compensating for shift; data for division into regions is coded, and data for indicating displacement of shift is coded. During decoding, reference shift is given for the target image to undergo decoding and is evaluated using the reference image; data for indicating division into regions which are included in the coded data are decoded; and shift displacement data included in the coded data are decoded for each region indicated by data for division into regions.

EFFECT: design of a method for coding and decoding video images where volume of shift data code is reduced without considerable deterioration of accuracy of shift compensation.
