SUBSTANCE: in the multilayer detector, scintillator plates have varying thickness which increases moving away from the source, and photodetector devices are placed on lateral surfaces of each scintillator plate or above joints of the plates.
EFFECT: increased detection efficiency, lower threshold of detecting radiation sources, broader spectrometric capabilities due to use of a set of plates and subsequent mathematical treatment of the number of signals coming from the plates, avoiding the need to use scintillation materials distinguished by the optical spectrum.
