FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparation of magnetic liquids. The method involves mixing solutions containing tri- and bivalent iron in ratio Fe3+/Fe2+ = 3:2, precipitation of magnetic particles by adding 28% ammonium hydroxide to the mixture of solutions, coating the precipitated magnetic particles in the aqueous medium with a stabilising substance which forms a soluble ammonium salt in excess ammonium hydroxide, heating the suspension of magnetic particles to convert the stabilising substance, separation of the aqueous phase and addition of a non-aqueous liquid carrier, having limited solubility relative the stabilising substance. The source of trivalent iron used is wastes from purifying flue gas on a metallurgical plant, and the source of bivalent iron is iron sulphate - wastes from production of titanium white using sulphuric acid.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain magnetic liquids with good magnetic properties using wastes from metallurgical production and wastes from production of titanium white.
