SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical communication engineering. The optical transmission system has a ring underground backbone network used in wavelength division multiplexing mode, connected to optical network terminals through a device for underground connection through access connections through a passive optical coupler. The underground connection device has wavelength converters and regenerators such that data are regenerated between optical network terminals and a central control and switching device.

EFFECT: possibility of covering transmission ranges of the order of 100 km.
