FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of purifying heavily contaminated industrial waste water, having a combination of organic chemical contaminants, to a recycled water state. The method of treating contaminated water involves oxidation of an organic compound contained in the water by bringing the water into contact with an ozone-containing gas such that, the initial concentration of the said organic compound falls to a second concentration. After the first treatment operation, concentration of the second part of the said organic compound falls due to dilution with an aqueous solution to a third concentration which is the greater than two third and primarily greater than half of the second concentration. In the second treatment operation, part of the organic compound present in the contaminated water is oxidised by bringing diluted contaminated water into contact with the ozone-containing gas such that the third concentration of the organic compound falls to a fourth concentration. The whole amount of organic compound at the first and second treatment operations is in contact with the ozone-containing gas for at least 20 minutes.
EFFECT: invention enables treatment of contaminated water without the need to control pH, removal of contaminants with easily decomposed compounds, treatment of waste water of different nature, and ground water waste water from decontamination area soil.
