FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves emission of an ultrasonic signal, its reception, measurement of the time interval between two pulses, its conversion to a digital code, measurement of not less than 3 time intervals in which the instantaneous value of amplitude of the received ultrasonic signal exceeds the threshold level. The time coordinate of the onset of the echo pulse is calculated from the change in duration of these time intervals and is used to calculate distance.
EFFECT: compensation for ultrasonic level gauge measurements caused by uncontrolled time interval between the onset of the echo pulse and operation of the threshold device.
