FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device for checking geometrical parametres of a pipe consists of a cylindrical housing on which there are ultrasound scanners, two belts of a lever-wheel support-movement system, a pulling elastic strap, hydraulic cylinders for changing size of the straps. Inside the housing of the device there is an electronic control and data recording unit, electronic components of ultrasound scanners and hydraulic actuator components. The device is moved by the pushing force formed by differential pressure of the transported gas on the front pulling strap. The device for controlling speed of motion does not use a by-pass pipe inside the housing of the apparatus, but an opening between the wall of the pipe and the outer wall of the housing of the apparatus, where the said opening has the largest cross section and capable of passing over half of the transported gas. Motion speed of the device controlled by changing the size of the strap and changing differential pressure on it. Differential pressure is controlled by using two factors - braking and moving. Braking is provided through mechanical moments generated by a constant electrical load on alternating current generators mounted on support wheels. The generators are multipolar in order to obtain voltage and power sufficient for generating braking moments of the required value at low rotation speed. The pulling force is generated using a folded strap made from elastic material with steel cables reinforced in folds, which receive the distributed mechanical force of the gas pushing on the strap. Wind resistance of the strap is controlled using a hydraulic system which pulls or releases edges of the strap to the housing of the device.
EFFECT: improved operational characteristics of the device.
