FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: laser electron-beam device has series arranged electron gun, microwave deflection system, electron beam focusing and deflection system and laser screen, which includes a plane-parallel semiconductor plate with reflecting coatings on its surface and a slotted mask made from material which is not transparent for electrons, lying on the side of the electron beam. When voltage which is sufficient for displacement of the electron beam on the laser screen by the width of the slit, is applied across the microwave deflection system, picosecond radiation pulses are generated from the selected point on the axis of any of the slits of the mask.
EFFECT: generation of picosecond pulses with possibility of scanning laser radiation within limits defined by the size of the laser screen.
