FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: contact inserts are fixed in current collector slides installed in frames. On roof of electric locomotive a capacitor battery is installed, being connected by one terminal to contact insert, and by the other one - to negative terminal of electric motor. In the beginning of electric locomotive motion a capacitor battery is charged for working voltage, for instance 3 kV. Mechanical contact between contact insert and contact wire excites travelling mechanical waves in contact wire. When speed of electric locomotive motion exceeds speed of mechanical wave, contact insert will be ruptured off contact wire. Due to the fact that at the terminal of capacitor battery for some period of time potential is preserved, equal to 3 kV, difference between contact insert and contact wire is equal to zero, and spark discharge is not produced.
EFFECT: increased service life of contact inserts and contact wire.
