FIELD: power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: fuel element consists of cylinder cladding with fuel core in form of successively coupled tablets positioned in cladding. Also the tablets have end faces forming cross grooves of the core. The cladding has cross corrugations positioned in grooves of the core. The design of the cladding with cross corrugations positioned in grooves of the core and functioning as a lens compensator facilitates reduction of stresses occurring in the cladding because of considerable temperature elongation of the core, its swelling and gas release. Additionally, the cladding with cross corrugations causes vortex formation of coolant washing fuel element. Vortex formation generated in zones of corrugations is carried away with flow and is utilised in zones between corrugations.
EFFECT: increased allowed heat power of fuel element at maintaining its strength properties.
