FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: palladium-cobalt catalysts are particularly suitable for use as cathode components in reactions of oxygen reduction in fuel elements. In compliance with this invention, fuel element comprises: (i) cathode for oxygen reduction, composition of palladium-cobalt binary alloy containing nano-particles of at least zero-valent palladium and zero-valent cobalt. Note here that said alloy corresponds to Pd1-xCox formulation, where x varies from approximately 0.1 to approximately 0.9, and is connected with electrically conducting carrier; (ii) stands for anode; (iii) stands for electric conductor connecting said oxygen reduction cathode with said anode, and (iv) stands for proton-containing medium in contact with said cathode and anode.
EFFECT: high catalytic activity of catalyst in oxygen reduction, lower costs.
