FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: catalyst consists of metal particles coated with gold. The particles have an electrocatalytically active core which is at least partially encapsulated by an outer shell of gold or gold alloy. Said particles have a core which contains a noble metal, for example a platinum or palladium alloy. The invention also relates to fuel cells containing said electrocatalysts, and methods of generating electrical energy using said fuel cells.
EFFECT: design of catalysts which are resistant to oxidation.
