FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: image forming device has an image forming unit made with possibility of photoelectric conversion of an optical image, an optical scaling unit made with possibility of changing the optical magnification factor in response to the scaling operation, an electronic scaling unit made with possibility of changing the electronic magnification factor based on the output signal from the image forming unit, and a controller which is made with possibility of controlling operation of the electronic scaling unit together with the optical scaling unit in the first scaling range in response to the scaling operation for controlling operation of the optical scaling unit without operation of the electronic scaling unit in response to the scaling operation in a second scaling range which is closer to the telephotographic side than the first scaling range, and for controlling operation of the electronic scaling unit together with the optical scaling unit in response to the scaling operation in a third scaling range which is closer to the telephotographic side than the second range.

EFFECT: scaling with a high magnification factor without deterioration of image quality.
