SUBSTANCE: determination is made of whether a character (234) which must be transmitted is an active character, where the character contains several subcarriers and codes identification information on the first part of the subcarriers if it is established that the character is an active character (236), down-time information on the second part of subcarriers is coded if it is established that the character is not active. A communication device is also disclosed, which has a detector logic circuit configured to decode several characters for determining identification information, which identifies several transmitters, and determining several channel evaluations related to several transmitters. The device also has a logic circuit for determining position which is configured to calculate position of the device based on several transmitters and several channel evaluations.

EFFECT: increased accuracy and unambiguous determination of position finding.
