FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method and device of handling/transporting work and/or support rolls in roll shop. Proposed method comprises carrying work rolls by means of locomotive from roll stand into roll shop. Said locomotive moves in roll shop transfer pit. Support structure with RH and LH sections is arranged nearby transfer pit, on its right and left. Top side of said support structure has rails to transfer bogie to rest on to move sideways to replace sets of work rolls. Said transfer bogie has means to receive rolls, or locomotive transfer said rolls from roll stand into roll shop. Support rolls are removed from transfer pit. New set of support rolls is lowered into said pit and carried by locomotive into roll stand. Also the device for implementing the invention is described.
EFFECT: transfer of rolls directly from rolling shop into roll shop.
