FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: device for detection and diagnostics of incipient ground short circuit includes the first grounding of electric motor system, the second grounding of electric motor system, controller intended for implementation of control strategy for switching between the first grounding and the second grounding, monitor intended for current control of leak current. At that, the first grounding forms the grounding path of electric motor system during normal operation. Controller is provided with possibility of controlling the switch between the first and the second groundings on the basis of controlled leak current. At that, monitor is connected at least to one of the first and the second groundings. Device for determining the incipient ground short circuit in electric motor system including many contactors installed either to electrically closed state, or to electrically open state. At that, device includes controller intended for installation of corresponding contactor to open state, monitor intended for monitoring the resulting transient characteristic in leak current.

EFFECT: preventing ground short circuit in electric motor of electric locomotive.
