FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in electric engineering for protection of electric locomotive traction motors of electric locomotive against emergency operation modes occurring at short circuits and voltage surges in overhead system. System for protection against emergency modes of traction DC motors includes input of direct current circuit, IGBT-transistors, collectors of which are connected to positive circuit of power circuit, and negative circuit is connected to emitters of transistors. Current circuit is connected to power circuit, transducers heat transducers have temperature sensors, transistor gate drivers are connected to control transistors providing galvanic isolation with control controller, which is connected by means of communication line with electric locomotive control system for protection system diagnostics and control and includes electric locomotive electric locomotive control output and control output of fans providing cooling of transistors. Besides, the system comprises a power supply providing power supply from the external network to a control controller and transistor drivers.

EFFECT: technical result is protection of circuits against overload due to use in parts of electric circuits, which are in a wide range of electrical potentials in relation to common direct current wire, in particular, as a high-speed switch in electric locomotives, as well as providing galvanic isolation of the protected circuit in case of occurrence emergency situation.
