FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device has a rigid die, a lever system with a lever, a counterweight and loads which can move along the lever from its support towards the die suspended from the lever, which touches the snow cover initially without transmitting pressure to the layer, a mechanism for moving the loads and a device for recording vertical deformation of the snow cover, fitted with a tape-recording device with a moving self-recorder fitted on slides, connected on one side to an elastic member which returns to the initial position, and on the other side to the movable part of the lever through a inextensible cord and a system of guide rollers.
EFFECT: higher testing efficiency and accuracy of measuring deformation developing in a snow cover under a load.
