FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to system for detecting and localising water in the sandwich structure (1) for an aircraft, having in its composition apparatus for heating water present in the intermediate layer of the sandwich structure, and apparatus for creating at least one image of the surface of the sandwich structure, where the said image shows distinctive zones of the said surface which correspond to presence of water in the intermediate layer, in which the water heating apparatus has a device (2, 3, 6) for emitting microwaves inside the sandwich at a frequency which is essentially equal to resonance frequency of water molecules. The microwave emitter is a non-detachable antenna. Two microwave emitters emit at different frequencies. The method of detecting and localising water in the sandwich structure for an aircraft involves emission of microwaves inside the sandwich structure, creating at least one image of the surface of the sandwich structure, detection of distinctive zones on the image which correspond to presence of water in the intermediate layer of the sandwich structure. The aircraft has the said system for detecting and localising water.
