FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a 2-phenylpyrrole synthesis method which involves reaction of acetophenoneoxime with acetylene in a dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) medium in the presence of potassium hydroxide at 130-150°C, acetylene pressure of 0.4-0.8 atm for 4-8 hours, where concentration of acetophenoneoxime in the reaction mixture is 1.32-1.85 mol/l, and potassium hydroxide is taken in amount of 8-16% of the weight of acetophenoneoxime. The method is characterised by high selectivity of the process, complete conversion of initial products and high purity (99.9%) of the end product. The DMSO solvent is produced (up to 70-80%) from the reaction mixture through vacuum distillation and 2-phenylpyrrole is extracted through subsequent dilution of the residue with water, separation of the end product through filtration and recrystallisation from petroleum ether.
