FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: protecting element (10) for sensor (8), designed for implementation in discharge gases exhaust system in vehicle with engine, at least partially adjoins external surface of sensor (8) with internal surface (13) and has at least one temporarily water binding layer (11). In its first working mode this layer chemically and/or physically binds water, while in its second mode it releases bound water. Due to water binding layer (11) protecting element (10) protects sensor (8) from a hydraulic shock as it prevents condensation of water steam primarily at start-up of a cold engine at the particular point of sensor (8) of highest heat capacity. Water binding layer (11) temporarily binds water in one working mode and releases it anew in the other working mode.
EFFECT: increased service life of sensor.
