SUBSTANCE: gas sensor (1), primarily an oxygen sensor for analysing waste gases produced by a non-stationary internal combustion engine, with at least one protective device (2), which at least partially surrounds the sensing element (3) of the gas sensor (1) in contact with the gas, where at least one protective device (2) has a section (4) in contact with the gas, which at least has a hygroscopic surface, where the hygroscopic surface is at least partially formed by a coating (5), preferably containing a drying agent (6), which is resistant to effect of high temperature.
EFFECT: gas sensor is highly reliable compared to known gas sensors owing to prevention of contact between sensing element and water droplets; gas sensor has simple design and provides for possibility of cheap commercial production.
