FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method for synthesis of N-nicotinoyl-γ-amino butyric acid which is an intermediate product for production of highly effective nootropic preparation - sodium salt of N-nictinoyl-γ-amino butyric acid (picamilon). The desired product is obtained by reacting 2-pyrrolidone with sodium hydroxide at 115-130°C in an aqueous medium with subsequent removal of water, addition of ethyl ether of nicotinic acid at 115-145°C, removal of the ethyl alcohol formed, addition of water at 70-80°C, treatment with sulphuric acid at 40-60°C until pH 4.7-4.8 and extraction of the product.
EFFECT: method enables reduction of amount of hazardous substances used in the synthesis while maintaining high output of the product which has good effect on the environment.
