FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: gas-discharge electron gun has a concave cathode having a spherical emission surface placed inside a sealed housing on a high-voltage insulator, a cylindrical anode coaxial with the cathode having a beam output opening, a beam guide with focusing coils, a system for feeding gas into the discharge gap, and cathode and anode cooling systems. The gas-discharge chamber of the gun is in form of a separate removable insert on whose bottom end there is a slit-type working gas swirler. The slit-type swirler of the gas-discharge chamber is in form of a ring. In the region adjacent to the outer diameter of the ring there is also an annular gas-distribution cavity joined to the beam output opening through end-to-end tangential openings with a rectangular cross-section lying at equal intervals. The working gas used is technical hydrogen with addition of a hydrogen-oxygen mixture formed through decomposition of water vapour in the electrolysis cell of the gun.
EFFECT: reduced expenses and duration of assembling and repairing the gun, stable supply of working gas into gas-discharge chamber and uniform distribution of gas on the spherical emission surface of the concave cathode.
