FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: ultra-wideband probing signals (UWP) are transmitted in the near zone. An antenna array receives and detects signals reflected and scattered an object. Electric and magnetic components of these signals are measured, from which the Pointing vector is calculated. The image of the subsurface object is calculated and displayed in form of a projection onto to an underlying surface. Standard forms of fronts of reflected (scattered) signals and corresponding forms of the subsurface object are evaluated. Properties of the subsurface medium, including the multi-layer medium, are calculated. The image of the object is constructed taking into account forms of elements of the subsurface object and properties of the medium.

EFFECT: more accurate construction of the image of a subsurface object taking into account its form, depth and properties of the medium.
