FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to reinforced ceramic articles. A porous ceramic article is formed through treatment with a boron source on a sintered porous ceramic article and heating to sufficient temperature in an oxygen-containing atmosphere. Said sintered article is aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, mullite, cordierite, beta-spodumene, aluminium titanate ceramic etc. After treatment with the boron source, the porous ceramic article has an oxide glass phase containing boron at least on part of ceramic grains and has strength which is at least 10% higher and coefficient of relaxation of thermal stress which is at least 20% higher than that of the initial ceramic article without an oxide glass phase containing boron.

EFFECT: obtaining reinforced ceramic articles with high strength and suitable for making filters.
