SUBSTANCE: wide-range comparator for checking and calibrating coordinate measurement apparatus has a row of concrete pillars with rails on which is mounted a movable carriage with a invar reference rod and an interferometre reflector. Over the rod there is a row of micrometre microscopes for locating the invar rod when the carriage moves, two autocollimators optically interfaced with a reference polyhedral prism lying in line with the inspected coordinate device, two coordinate units and an extra rod for checking cyclic error of optical ranging units. In order to check and calibrate an interference measurement channel of coordinate X, two units are further included, consisting of a BR-180° type prism, one of which is rigidly mounted on the carriage and the second is detachable and is mounted opposite the first on a fixed base. The number of prisms in the detachable unit depends on the range of interference measurements. In order to check and calibrate without moving the calibrated device of coordinate Y on the reference polyhedral prism, a directional lock is included, which restricts turning of the holder of the measurement channel of the calibrated device when the table with the polyhedral prism turns on the azimuth by the required angle.
