FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to solid polyester particles with high intrinsic viscosity (IV) of the molten phase and low rate of formation of acetaldehyde (AA). The solid polyester particles are obtained through polycondensation of a molten polyester composition in the presence of a polycondensation catalyst to IV 0.68 dl/g or higher, wherein said catalyst contains antimony particles. A catalyst stabiliser or deactivator based on an acidic compound of phosphorus is added to the molten polymer. The molten polymer solidifies into solid polyester particles in the absence of organic acetaldehyde scavengers. After solidification of the polymer, excess amount of acetaldehyde in solid particles is lowered to concentration of 10 parts/million or less without increasing IV of the particles to more than 0.03 dl/g. An article is made by putting the obtained solid particles into a melt processing zone, melting the particles and moulding articles from the molten polymer with concentration of excess acetaldehyde less than 10 parts/million.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain solid polyester particles with low yellowness value.
