FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: testing medium for system level testing substation automation includes: first and second intelligent electronic devices, data transmission network, test device connected to the data transmission network. Standard description of implemented functions of the intelligent electronic device is read using the test device. Testing device can transmit network messages which denote the behaviour of a second intelligent electronic device in accordance with the system level function over a data transmission network to the first intelligent electronic device. The behaviour of the first intelligent electronic device is monitored in response to network messages.
EFFECT: provision for system level testing functions.
